6417984037 d2868d66c5 Big Berkey Water Filter System We have had our share of water woes. While I am conscious of what can be lurking around in tap water, I don’t mind drinking it if I have to. Greg on the other hand, refuses to so we have alternated from bottled water to quite a few water filtration pitchers. Each and every pitcher we’ve used has been a frustrating process. For starters, the filters typically don’t last very long and they cost an arm and a leg. We had one pitcher that took forever to filter, but the water tasted so pure… until the filter expired without warning, leaving the water almost rancid tasting. Back to bottled water we went.

While browsing online, I happened to stumble upon Big Berkey Water Filter systems. A friend was considering getting one since her friend spoke so highly of Big Berkey. So after hearing all of its benefits, I decided to try Big Berkey for myself when offered a system to review. Word-of-mouth, ain’t it something? Anywho. So the Big Berkey is stainless-steel water filtration system that looks much like a hot coffee dispenser. Inside are 2 filters referred to as Black Berkey Elements that filter out harmful elements from water. Additional Black Berkey Elements and PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic Filters can be purchased.

The Big Berkey system removes pathogenic bacteria, cysts and parasites entirely and extracts harmful chemicals such as herbicides, pesticides, VOCs, organic solvents, radon 222 and trihalomethanes. It also reduces nitrates, nitrites and unhealthy minerals such as lead and mercury. This system is so powerful it can remove food coloring from water without removing the beneficial minerals your body needs. Virtually no other system can duplicate this performance.

Each black berkey filter can purify 3.5 Gallons per hour and lasts up to 3000 gallons (6000 gallons per set of 2). If a family drinks 10 gallons of water per week, this is equivalent to 600 weeks… that’s 11.5 years of water! So the initial investment in the system and filters are SO.worth.it! With PF-2 Fluoride and Arsenic filters installed, the system will also remove Fluoride, Arsenic V, pre-oxidized Arsenic III, and other residual heavy metal ions. Under normal conditions it is recommended that each set of two PF-2 elements be replaced after 1,000 gallons (3,785 liters) or every 2 years (whichever comes first). With so much chatter about fluoride being harmful, I’m choosing to purchase the PF-2 Filters soon.

Don’t mind the smudges and prints – proof it’s being put to good use!

Before being introduced to Big Berkey, I thought I’d have to purchase a water distiller to get the water quality that I truly desired. Here’s an article, Berkey Water Filters vs Distillation, that will help put things into perspective.

The Big Berkery is simple yet superb. It’s super easy to assemble and use and is the best cost-effective/energy-efficient solution to safe, thoroughly purified water. Not only can Big Berkey be used at home, but during travel, outdoor activities, and unexpected emergencies. Go Big Berkey!
