It just pains me to have to throw away food. The amount of food that we throw away has gotten ridiculous and I need to nip it in the bud – especially if we want to get serious about home ownership. Things get buried in our small fridge and we forget about them when introduced to more left overs or groceries. So what I have been trying to do is freeze leftovers if they are still in the fridge after 2-3 days. And I have finally gotten the perfect tool to do so. FoodSaver sent me one of their vacuum sealing kits (the V3460) for my review. I’ll be honest, it sat for weeks because I didn’t want to be bothered with it. I was intimidated by it and I assumed it would be difficult to use. Once I used it, I felt like a big dummy for letting it sit for so long!
It’s super easy to use and I’ll post a demonstration video in a later post. Seriously, you just fill your vacuum bag full of food, turn on the FoodSaver, and slide the opened end of the bag into the machine. The SmartSeal technology senses the bag and FoodSaver vacuums and seals in less than a minute! Individual vacuum bags, bag rolls (V3460 has a built-in roll holder), and containers (perfect for deli meats) are available for any food preservation job imaginable.
Below is a chart that shows the difference in food freshness using ordinary storage versus using FoodSaver. I can’t wait to use FoodSaver to build up our meat supply. We plan on purchasing a quarter of a grass-fed cow next year. Preserving it with FoodSaver will ensure that all that precious meat doesn’t go to waste!
