At the end of last year’s Christmas season, I packed up our artificial tree and planned to purchase a real tree this year. To make sure I followed through, I gave our artificial tree away. Fast forward to now and we have another artificial tree. Ha! Things have been so hectic, I didn’t even want to think about taking care of a real tree. Next year, I’m thinking about doing mini real trees; one for each of us. How fun would that be?

Our new tree was sent to us by the festive folks at Treetopia. It’s a 6-foot Clear Lit Balsam Spruce. I’ve never had the luxury of owning pre-lit Christmas trees, so I was so excited to set it up.

Setup was super easy! The Balsam Spruce tree is sectioned off into three pieces; you just stack them on top of each other (the first piece slides into the stand) and fold the branches down for fluffing out. I’m used to setting up the stand and the pole and then sticking each color coded branch into it’s corresponding slot. I was so relieved I didn’t have to deal with that and risk Jayden running off with the branches or mixing them up! Since the tree is only three pieces (excluding the stand), and the branches fold up, I can look forward to easily storing it away in it’s storage bag.

Oh the branches… they are so full and pretty! A peeve of mine when it comes to artificial Christmas trees are gaps! You definitely don’t have to worry about that with this tree! Another thing I’ve noticed with artificial trees; their needles are a darker green and are much wider. The Balsam Spruce from Treetopia is lighter in color and looks more natural. Its branches are very realistic. You can tell that some very busy elves put some serious TLC into this tree.

I planned on decorating the tree in clear lights this year. It’s something I’ve never done before and I thought they’d look classy with our prim decor. But after having the tree lit a few hours, Greg said it didn’t look traditional enough. So we strung our multi-colored lights around the tree and unplugged the clear lights. The tree then looked dull without those pretty, bright clear lights. I was worried about the clear lights and multi-colored lights clashing, but they actually complemented each other as well as our decor.

Greg gave me this bear 7 or 8 years ago.

The Frosty The Snowman ornament was a surprise from Hallmark :).

Jayden can’t get enough of the lights. When we turn them on, he exclaims, “WOW KISSMAS TWEE!” He also loves stashing his toys in the tree, which explains the crooked ribbon. I’ve pulled out Thomas The Train on numerous occasions, dinosaurs, as well as other lil’ creatures.

Oh Sheena, I love it! I went through a whole phase of white lights in early 2000. I look back now and wondered how I could ever have abandoned my beautiful colors.

    Looks gorgeous!!

How pretty!! I am ditching my artificial tree I have had for 8 years and also getting rid of most of my decorations so I can start from scratch next year. I do plan to purchase some things at clearance cost for next year. I always do a fancy tree and might do a more childlike tree next year.

Thanks! It’s so much fun starting from scratch. It helps to have a few trees to get creative with so you don’t feel like you’re ditching one style of decor for the other.
